Topic: Computer Software and Operating Systems Time: 45 minutes
Sub-topic: Types of Operating Systems on the basis of User's Interface

Specific Objectives:

At the end of this topic the students will be able to:

a)   Understand the types of operating system on the basis of user’s interface i.e. CUI and GUI.

b)   Differentiate between CUI and GUI operating system software.

Teaching Materials:

Whiteboard, Marker, Book, Notes and Computer.

Teaching Learning Activities:

a)  At first, I will revise the topic which was taught last day within five minutes.

b)  Then I will list out the types of operating system on the basis of User’s Interface. i.e.

(i)            CUI (Character User Interface)

(ii)          GUI (Graphical User Interface)

c)   I will explain the concept and definition of CUI and GUI operating system which is mentioned below:

CUI: Those operating system in which the user need to remember the commands to perform any task in the computer. Example: MS-DOS and UNIX.

GUI: Those operating system in which icons, menus, pointing devices and other visual indicators are used to perform any task in the computer. Example: MS-Windows, LINUX, etc.

d)   I will also clear the doubt of the students if any.

Evaluation:

a)   Which type of operating system is mostly used these days?

b) Which type of operating system is easier to use? CUI or GUI.
