Subject : Computer Science Class : 7th Grade Period : 1st Chapter : Understanding Email and Its Uses Duration: 45 minutes
Objective:
- Students will understand the concept of email and its uses.
- Students will learn how to create and send an email.
- Students will be familiarized with email etiquette and safety.
Materials:
- Whiteboard and markers
- Computer or laptop for demonstration
- Internet access for demonstration purposes
- Handouts or printouts on email etiquette
Introduction (5 minutes):
- Begin by asking students if they have ever used email before and what they know about it.
- Explain that email is a method of exchanging digital messages over the Internet and that it is widely used for communication.
Understanding Email (10 minutes):
- Define key terms: Email, Inbox, Outbox, Subject, Attachments, etc.
- Discuss the advantages of using email for communication, such as speed, cost-effectiveness, and convenience.
- Explain the basic structure of an email - To, Cc, Bcc, Subject, and the body of the email.
Demonstration (15 minutes):
- Demonstrate how to create an email using a popular email service (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo Mail).
- Guide students through the process of composing an email, adding recipients, a subject, and writing a message.
- Show how to attach files if necessary.
- Discuss the importance of a clear and concise subject line.
Activity: Composing and Sending Emails (10 minutes):
- Have students log in to their email accounts if available. If not, they can use a provided computer or share with a partner.
- Instruct them to compose a simple email to a classmate or a teacher.
- Encourage them to practice adding a subject, addressing the email properly, and writing a clear message.
Discussion on Email Etiquette and Safety (5 minutes):
- Discuss the importance of email etiquette, such as using appropriate language, being concise, and considering the recipient's feelings.
- Talk about email safety, including the importance of not opening emails from unknown senders, being cautious with attachments, and not sharing sensitive information.
Conclusion (5 minutes):
- Summarize the key points covered in the lesson.
- Encourage students to ask questions and clarify any doubts they may have.
- Assign homework, such as sending an email to a family member or friend, emphasizing the concepts learned in class.
Assessment:
- Informal assessment through observation during the hands-on activity.
- Review of the emails sent by students to check for understanding of the concepts discussed.
