Subject : Computer Science Period : 1st Class : Seven Topic : Internet safety Duration: 45 minutes
Objective:
Students will understand the importance of internet safety, recognize potential online risks, and learn how to protect themselves while using the internet.
Materials:
- Whiteboard and markers
- Projector and computer for multimedia presentations
- Handouts on internet safety tips
- Internet Safety Quiz (prepared in advance)
Introduction (10 minutes):
- Begin the class by discussing the prevalence of the internet in today's world. Ask students about their favorite online activities and the benefits they gain from the internet.
Activity 1: Understanding Online Risks (15 minutes):
- Use the whiteboard to list common online risks (e.g., cyberbullying, identity theft, online scams, inappropriate content).
- Discuss each risk and ask students if they have encountered or heard about these issues. Encourage them to share their experiences or observations.
Activity 2: Internet Safety Tips (15 minutes):
- Present a multimedia presentation on internet safety tips. Include topics such as creating strong passwords, being cautious with personal information, recognizing phishing attempts, and using privacy settings on social media.
- Distribute handouts summarizing the key internet safety tips. Discuss each tip and ask students for examples of how they can implement these practices in their online activities.
Activity 3: Group Discussion (5 minutes):
- Divide the class into small groups and ask them to discuss a scenario related to internet safety. For example, discuss what actions they would take if they receive a friend request from a stranger or come across inappropriate content online.
- Each group presents their discussions, and the class discusses the best approaches to handle such situations.
Conclusion (5 minutes):
- Conduct a short quiz on the key points covered in the lesson. This can be a fun and interactive way to reinforce the concepts learned.
- Summarize the importance of internet safety and remind students to apply the tips discussed in their online activities.
Homework Assignment:
- Ask students to research and write a short paragraph on one recent incident related to online safety. They should discuss what went wrong, how it could have been prevented, and the importance of staying vigilant online.
Assessment:
- Assess students based on their participation in group discussions, understanding of internet safety concepts, and completion of the homework assignment.
