1. Specific Objective:[edit | edit source]

At the end of this lesson, students will be able:

  • To list various functions of an OS,
  • To understand each function with an example,

3. Teaching Learning Activities:[edit | edit source]

  • Enter the classroom, ask some questions from previous lessons, like, tell me about different types of OS. Give an example of a real-time OS?, What is the major difference between a time-sharing and a multitasking OS ?
  • Let students answer all of the questions asks from previous sessions, and if they have any confusion, then spend some time to clear those confusions by revising each type of OS in very short.
  • Motivate students before starting the lesson for their concentration on the lesson, and then write today's topic on the board.
  • Open the presentation slide and briefly introduce topic by showing list of OS functionalities like, Process Management, Memory Management, File Management, Device Management, Security & Protection, and User Interface, etc.
  • Explain each function through an example in depth, and after completion of the explanation, ask students about each function one by one.
  • Summarize the lesson in brief.

During the session, ask questions like,

  • Now tell me how the OS helps us manage devices and files.
  • What user interface helps us make our work easier?

Explain the different functionalities/operations of an operating system.
