- Define computer software: Software refers to a set of instructions or programs that tell a computer how to perform specific tasks.
- Explain the importance of software in the overall functioning of a computer.
Types of Computer Software (5 minutes):
- Divide the whiteboard into two sections: System Software and Application Software.
- Discuss System Software:
- Explain that system software is essential for the basic functioning of the computer. - Mention examples such as operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), device drivers, and utility software.
- Discuss Application Software:
- Describe application software as programs designed to perform specific tasks for users. - Provide examples such as word processors (Microsoft Word), spreadsheets (Excel), web browsers (Chrome), and graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop).
