Subject : Operating System
Period: Third
Topic: Process Managemnet
Teaching Item: Process & Thread
Class: BICT 4th Semester
Unit: Two
Time: 50 min
No. of Students: 20
1. Specific Objective:
At the end of this lesson, students will be able:
- To understand the concepts of process and thread in operating systems.
- To identify the differences between processes and threads.
- To explain the importance of processes and threads in the context of operating systems.
2. Instructional materials:
- Daily Usage Materials,
- PowerPoint Presentation Slide,
- Laptop
- Projector etc.
3. Teaching Learning Activities:
- I will enter the classroom, greeting the students warmly and motivating them for an engaging session. I will write today's topic, "Process and Thread in Operating Systems," on the board, encouraging students to take note of it.
- I will begin the class by asking probing questions such as: "What do you understand by a process in computing?" "How does a thread differ from a process?" "Why are processes and threads important in an operating system?"
- After that, I will open the PowerPoint presentation slides, providing a structured overview of the topic. The slides will cover the definitions of processes and threads, their characteristics, and their roles in multitasking environments.
- I will supplement the presentation with real-world examples and analogies to enhance understanding and application.
- After covering the main points, I will summarize the lesson, highlighting key takeaways and emphasizing the practical relevance of understanding processes and threads in operating systems.
4. Assessment:
Throughout the session, I will engage students with questions like, "Can you distinguish between a process and a thread?" "Why might an operating system use threads instead of processes for certain tasks?"
5. Homework:
What do you mean by process and threads? Explain with their differences.
